A group of Asturian journalists visit Musel E-Hub
- Via a multimolecule plant model, the Gijón terminal will be able to make progress in the challenges posed by decarbonisation.
- Musel E-Hub has been visited by a group of journalists from the main Asturian media, who were given the chance to get a close look at the technical operation of the LNG terminal.
The plant’s General Manager, Antonio Manzano Sevilla, and Juan María Moreno Mellado, Endesa’s General Manager for Energy Management – company awarded the contract for logistics services – gave those present an initial assessment of the infrastructure’s operations since its commissioning in July 2023.
“Musel E-Hub has successfully fulfilled its objective of strengthening the energy supply guarantee for Spain and Europe in these past 14 months. The terminal has received 16 LNG tankers, whose LNG discharges are equivalent to 120% of the natural gas demand of Asturias”, emphasised the General Manager of Musel E-Hub.
He also highlighted that a total of 5 refuelling operations have been carried out, equivalent to some 250,000 m3 of LNG, representing 15% of the refuelling operations carried out in the 7 Spanish LNG plants. In addition to this, around 1,900 tanker trucks were loaded with 18 different destinations, mainly focused on the closest supply in Asturias, León and Zamora.
Manzano stated that Musel E-Hub, of which Enagás (75%) and Reganosa (25%) are shareholders, will enable progress to be made in the challenges of decarbonisation through “a multi-molecule model, for which the first studies are already being carried out” and which will promote the development of alternatives such as renewable hydrogen and the sustainable management of CO2.
The visit was also attended by the President of the Gijón Port Authority, Laureano Lourido; Enagás’ Gas Assets General Manager, Claudio Rodríguez, Enagás’ Logistics-Commercial Manager, Mary Paz Adán, the Head of the Terminal, Raúl Jiménez Calvo, and the CFO & Corporate Development Director at Reganosa, David Santamaría.
Musel E-Hub is a strategic terminal for the establishment of an energy hub in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula to reinforce the guarantee of supply to Europe. It will also play a major role in integrating renewable hydrogen production in the area with future hydrogen corridors.
